How to Find Discounted Airfares Online

George Wood asked:

A number of airlines, travel agents are travel sites are offering discounted airfares. One many get confused as to which is the best one. Well you should have some time and patience so find that. Of course you should have the skills to search on the net also.

Airfares form a major part of anyones vacation budget. Hence the discounted airfares are really helpful. The easiest way to get discounted airfare is to make the booking in advance. However there are some other ways also which are given below.

First of all you should search on the airlines sites. You will most probably get some discounts if you purchase the ticket from their sites. However they may not be the best discounts available. So before you start searching for the best discounted airfare just have a look at the airlines sites and note down the discounted rate offered by them.

You can get the best available airfare by logging onto sites like AirfareGlobal.com, Sidestep.com or Kayak.com. These sites search the internet and display the best available option. So you do not need to visit each site individually to know about the best fares.

Some big sites like Travelocity.com have closed their database for the search engines so that they do not loose much of their traffic. So if you want to know about their discounted rates, you need to visit some other travel sites like Orbitz or Expedia.

In case you have some time left for your trip, you should make it a point to check the internet regularly. Check the different sites at random hours say make one check at 8 in the morning, then 4 in the evening and lastly 10 in the night. You may be able to get great discounted offers this way. You need to have some luck to avail these discounted airfares because they are old out very quickly.

It is often a hard task to track of all the various discounts that you can find and take advantage of. You need constantly search a lot of airline travel websites on the Internet or keep very close contacts with your travel agents. Sometimes, go with your travel agents is the better choice, as they have good access to all available discounts and airlines with discounted rates on most flights they are offering. They also may have access to offers that may not be given to the general public.

You can also go for the flexible fare searches especially when your dates are not confirmed. You can book your tickets for the day on which the rates are the lowest.

You can travel during the off-season or book well in advance to get the discounted rates. You are sure to get big discounts this way!

Airline Misses In-Flight Connection

Ken Okel asked:

US Airways has announced that soon it will drop its in-flight entertainment service from most of its domestic flights. The reason: Airline representatives say the system weighs about 500 pounds and that adds to the price of fuel. While I’m all for saving money, I think US Airways is acting like someone who wants to lose weight by chopping off an arm. When you consider all the weight on a plane, the entertainment system is not that big a deal. (I guess the airline couldn’t put all employees on a diet or encourage thin passengers to fly with them.) Especially if you consider it a viable revenue source that can off-set the weight issue.

Think about it, an airline has a captive audience. Why not charge a few bucks for on-demand use of the entertainment system. People won’t pay it, you think. Maybe not but look at an airport terminal. People pay a lot of money for overpriced food, water, and coffee. Would they not do the same for something that would keep them occupied on a plane. Face it, if you’re not flying the aircraft, you’re not that busy. Of course in today’s world, people can watch movies from their laptops and listen to music on their i-Pods.

The in-flight service shouldn’t look to compete with that but rather find a way to give the passengers unique content. What if the airlines showed videos about the flight’s destination cities. These could be made in collaboration with the city’s Chambers of Commerce. Wouldn’t you like to learn more about a city’s sights, hidden treasures, and fantastic restaurants before you arrived? Merchants could pay for commercials during these broadcasts. The challenge of high fuel costs should not be seen as a reason to reduce services. It’s an opportunity to find ways to improve the travel experience for both the passengers and the airlines.
