Traveling to the Philippines?

Steffy asked:

I have done a lot of searching of different sites for discounted airfare for traveling to the Philippines, and so far they are all running about the same price. But what I am wanting to know is, is one of the discount websites better then the others? If so, is one more reputable then the others? For I will be booking a flight online for sometime this August but I don’t want to use a site that won’t deliver what is promised.

Also any recommendations on which airline is best to use would be helpful. I have heard all sorts of stories about PAL, Cathay and Eva, so any personal experiences on any of these would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

philippines airlines is your best bet, you should be able to get a ticket for around 900-1100 anything more then that is expensive. Try to blend in with everyone else and dont look like a high roller because they can kidnap you and hold you hostage. Not kidding either. Dont be wearing jewelery, and carry travelers checks or change your dollars to the peso. Its a beautiful place and your dollar stretches out over there, hey bring me back something.

I’m an American living in the Philippines for the last year and a half. I’ve flown Cathay Pacific, Eva, and China Airlines. China Airlines seems to be the best from SFO. I also get Delta Skymiles with China Airlines, Continental miles with Eva. With PAL you get their own Mabuhay miles which are pretty worthless. Also, PAL was recently downgraded by FAA (US) so they’re not the best airline to fly though my trip with them to Beijing was decent.

Take a look at and use their international travel flight finder.

They’re all pretty much the same. Your going to sleep thru most of it anyway. Whats the dif? And if your looking for a “discount” just stay home and save ALL the money. It sounds to me like your hoping to get a dollars worth of service for a nickel. Good luck with that.

Now since your not going to like my answer, just report me and it will disappear and you can feel good again.

August travel is going to be more expensive because school is out in the states so its considered peak season. Do yourself a favor and read the other post I made. Refer to tinyurl links.

If you read through Philippines Travel I have answered four questions very similar to your regarding air travel. See and and

I have made over twenty round trip flights from the states to the Philippines and vice versa. Some 28 years of experience tells me there is no one Internet site or travel site or airlines better than the other. you must always research for the best deals. Some may say Philippines Airlines has the best deals. Some times they may have great deals, but other times their prices are usually higher than others.

Also different airlines services different hubs. My wife and I have always found the best deals with NorthWest Airlines or one of its partners, but other travelers from other parts of the country may have a different opinion. There are just too many contributing factors and variables for any one person to say one airlines or travel site is better than the otheR. I know I have traveled the globe extensively.

I got my ticket through mobissimo.com it found me the cheapest fare. I was a little worried working with an on line travel site I had never heard of but everything went well.

I have found travel here in the Philippines to be safer then most American cities I have lived in (Chicago, New Orleans) way safer then these two. But like any where else be streetwise. Good luck.

As far as airlines, they all seem pretty much the same to me these days.
PS: I have been staying here for 8 months now.

I have been flying with Eva for many years. They are always on time, the service is great and they are one of the safest airlines to fly on. You can go online, enter the city of departure and arrival, the date, the class, and you will have the price. You can book it online with CC.
I just checked for August 14th and the price was 1026 plus 55 dollars for Tax, total 1081 this is out of Los Angeles. You can play around with dates and you might find cheaper price.

I’ve been there 4 times. Needless to say, I have allot of research invested. Travelling from June-August will increase the price that you pay, regardless of the site that you use to buy tickets.

This past April, I purchased a round trip ticket direct from Northwest because they were the cheapest. The ticket cost me about $850.

Last Novmeber, was the cheapest. (About $900.)

Last June, was the cheapest. (About $850.)

Last January, was the cheapest (About $950.)

This June, my wife is coming to live with me because her VISA was approved. Flying directly from NW is going to cost $800.

The best advice that I can give you is to shop arround each time that you go. Don’t get in the habit of always going to one place. Check prices frequently.

As far as airlines, I have been a little disappointed in Cathay Pacific. It seems like there is always a delay.

I have flown PAL locally and they have great customer service.

NW rarely experiences a delay. Get this – on the flight back, everyone had checked in and boarded, they got the clearance to take off and we left 10 minutes EARLY! EARLY – can you believe it!

The thing to keep in mind is that you want to depart and probably come back on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for the best rates.

Just do allot of Googling and check all the sites that you can!
