Discount flight tickets for child visitation?
Posted in Marriage & Divorce on 09/22/2009 12:05 pm by adminQuestion for anyone who can help…..
My boyfriends ex wife moved out of state with their children. He went to court to fight it because she had no reason to leave besides to leave…and she won and was able to move. Laws in this state didnt help the father out. The father is now required to pay for airfare (his and children) every other month (even though she is one that wanted to move). The children are at an age where they shouldnt fly alone, so he needs to fly and pick them up, fly back, and then 3 days later fly there to drop off and come back again.
The tickets are outrageous, because he is gonna have to fly and come back in the same day. Does anyone know if there are any flight discounts or anything for people who have child visitation?
This may be a dumb question, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
It’s going to end up being 1500 or more for these flights every other month and didnt know if there was anything for this sort of thing
Thanks so much!

I don’t think they discount tickets for visitation. However you can try a discount ticket website like priceline.com. You can get some really good rates. My husband and I plus our 4 kids flew to Mexico round trip for less than 2,500 dollars.

It might be more cost effective for him to stay there in an extended stay hotel with his kids and then fly home, rather than fly them all back and forth. I really wonder about why the judge allowed this in the first place, but not having all the details…who knows….

No, I don’t think you’ll find anything like that. That really does ****. Maybe if you book the flights way in advance (months ahead) you can get some good rates.

Sometimes you can purchase your tickets back to back and that can help. But I think the Saturday stay and seven day stay may be a thing of the past. I used to purchase a round trip for say, March 15 departure and a June 15 return. Then I’d buy another round trip from the arrival city to my city and back again. You might also find that buying one way tickets is better. I’ve been doing that lately and that has often been my cheapest bet. Flying on Fridays can be more expensive. You have to learn what days to fly and what days not to fly. Flying on a holiday can be good but usually not the days near the holiday.
As far as I know, the airlines don’t offer discounts to somebody who has children out of state.
Talk to a good travel agent and get some good advice. Getting on a frequent flyer program would be good. Some airlines will let you bank miles into one place from a number of airlines and that works well. Once you bank enough miles you can start to cash in those miles to get tickets. Buy tickets with cash when it’s cheap and buy with miles when the tickets are too expensive.

This makes no sense to me at all
OK. I have full custody of my 2 children with my Ex. I relocated across country with my husband and our children for his new JOB. I was ordered to pay for ALL EXPENSES including his(ex’s) airfare to and from bringing the kids back! (we took turns doing this) I know what you mean as far as the ticket prices…but if you are ordered to do it…you have no other choice but to do it. I know the court order for my kids, was to have visitation 4 TIMES per YEAR and they SPENT all summer with him. It was such an emotional strain on our whole family we moved back. I spent 8,000 in air fare that year. Good Luck
