I am looking for some discounts to flying. Anyone know of any tricks? Is flying “stand by” still an option?

The best I have found is searching the internet. You can’t fly standby any more unless you work for an airline. Even then it is dicey, as flights are booked closer to capacity these days.

Last min. is a great option, especially for big city travel, because flights are so frequent and often not full. however have the time to be on standby or waiting for at least 8hrs. on your return. G’luck

I have had great luck at priceline-name your own price, but you have to stick with your plan…also Southwest has great internet sales.

Try a site like sidestep that searches the net for you and includes sites that don’t typically list on travelocity and others.
You also listed for Vegas, so I’m assuming that’s where you are going. Check websites of various hotels for good deals, and keep checking every day. If they lower their price, call the hotel and ask them to amend it. Also, try staying at a lower budget place like Excalibur, Riveria, or Sahara, or Tropicana. They’re still on the strip, but are typically less expensive than many other places – mid-week rooms start around $50. If staying on the strip isn’t important, check out places like Fitzgeralds, Four Queens, or even Golden Gate – they have rooms that start at like $35 and are located in the ‘Downtown’ area on Fremont Street.
Oh, and Aladdin is undergoing some major construction, so you might want to try there for some good deals. Try searching for coupon codes for them (tripadvisor sometimes has them in their forums) and see if you can get a great rate with some additional things (like shopping & dining coupons).
Have Fun!
